ABOUT THE WILD

There is an ancestral belief that wearing an animal’s fur transfers their characteristics to the one wearing it. In pre-Columbian cultures, the jaguar was seen as a symbol of great power and not for nothing, it has the most powerful bite amongst all big cats and it is a skillful hunter. To the Mayans, the jaguar was a spiritual companion whereas for the Guarani people it is a great menace capable of eating all the stars in the skies and spreading darkness in our world.

In Western culture it was the cinema that made animal print clothes popular in the beginning of the 20th century and around the 50’s those patterns took over fashion shows and the Pinup girls’ clothes. The jaguar pattern itself, known as leopard print, became a synonym for sexy and wild in a time when the feminist movement won more and more rights for women. Not by chance it is from that time that the understanding that leopard prints were vulgar came.

Power, danger, seduction, holiness, beauty and vulgarity. In a world where being a woman finds no middle ground, the jaguar image allows us many angles for the same story.

The Wild is a rainbow of warm colors through which runs the blood of many ethnicities and the fierceness of many unheard voices. It’s a portrait of our vanity and also of our armor turned into costumes and ornaments. A mirror that reflects our image transformed in many.

In The Wild there’s room for every woman in the world.
